How To

How to Fly Drones With Beginners

A drone refers to a remote-controlled aircraft designed for aerial photography, surveillance and scientific research. Drone technology has existed since World War II. DJI's Phantom series quadcopters were first commercially available in 2010. From beginner-friendly drones such as Parrot AR Drone 2.0 through professional-grade multirotor craft like DJI Mavic Pro, many types have been available.

There are many methods to fly a Drone, including

  1. Remote control: This uses a remote control device that attaches to your hand and allows you control the drone along its flight path. There are two main types: Joysticks (like a radio), and On/Off switches (like an alarm clock).
  2. Manual Control - This method uses a smartphone app to remotely control the drone using GPS coordinates. You will need to keep track of where the drone is going and follow the directions from the app.
  3. Autonomous Flight – This is when the drone handles all the piloting tasks. It basically flies autonomously without any human intervention. It must have a builtin camera, sensors capable of taking images and data to enable autonomous flight.
  4. Triggered Flight: This is similar in concept to manual control. The pilot manually creates a route and the drone then follows it until it reaches that endpoint. The drone automatically lands once the route has been completed and returns to the base.
  5. Landing Gear: Some drones have landing gear that allows them safely to land in case they lose power or run low on battery.
  6. Goggles - Pilots may wear goggles to shield themselves from flying debris.
  7. Camera - Certain drones come with cameras that allow you to take photos and videos from high above.
  8. Obstacles - Some drones can be equipped with obstacle avoidance systems that prevent them from crashing into obstacles.
  9. Speed - Some drones can travel at speeds over 40 mph.
  10. Battery Life – Most drones will last 20 minutes to three hours depending on how powerful they are.
  11. Distance - Some drones can travel up 30 miles depending on the model.
  12. Power source - Some drones require an external power source; others work off internal batteries.
  13. Weight - Some drones can be as light as 1 pound while others can reach 4 pounds.
  14. Size - Drones come in many sizes, from small gadgets that fit in one's hands to large craft that weigh more than 50 lbs.
  15. Price – All drones fall into a price category. These range from expensive models that cost thousands to affordable options that start at 100 dollars.
